And without the ability to add manual filters, there’s no easy fix. I hope (and expect) the developer to fix this eventually — the massive change to the filtering model in Safari 12 obviously will take a major effort to re-establish full functionality. Would also love to see options to block all auto-playing video, and also animated images.

Timannnn, It works! Well sort of. So the main sites I visit were showing ads with the new versoin of Adblock after Safari 12.0 update. Confirming Adblock was set correclty I was still getting ads. That’s when I stumbled upon a setting within Safari.
Go to Safari, Preferences, Websites, Content Blockers. Go through this list and confirm that all are turned on for sites you visit. If you’re still getting ads, remove the site from the list and check the Adblock setting now. In my case, after I removed the site, Adblock was set to allow ads.
I then turned on Adblock to block ads again and Voila, no more ads on the page. I had to turn on for multiple pages within same website (a forum site) but once I did that no more ads. Hope this helps. Adblock is BACK!

The main advantage of using the new content blocking APIs are the significant improvements to the speed and performance of ad blocking capabilities. Using these APIs also means there’s still some ground work to be done to improve the accuracy of what’s being blocked.
We’ll be working over time to better optimize our filter list generation to provide a great ad blocking experience.
